Pentaco Construction have handed over the completed respite care centre in Kingswood Avenue, Taverham, Norwich. The centre, which has been built for NHS Norfolk & Waveney, will be used by families from across Norfolk and will replace an existing centre at Mill Close, Aylsham.
The centre provides short term respite care for adults with learning disabilities and complex health needs. The project involved combining two existing bungalows to create the centre for up to six residents.
The majority of the interior of the two bungalows were stripped out and a link built to join the two buildings. The new accommodation included the installation of all new Mechanical and Electrical services. Six bedrooms were created, including one that could be re-configured to provide a self-contained flat, giving the resident greater independence. Bathrooms are fitted with rise and fall sinks and have specialist baths. Each bedroom is fitted with a hoist system running on a fixed track, allowing staff to move residents around the room and into the bathrooms. In addition to the bedrooms we provided a dining room, two kitchens, medicine prep room and a staff office.
